Holiday Rally Day #10: Friend Check

When is the last time you checked in with your friends?

It’s been hard to keep track of my friendships since marriage, kids, life, and now the Pandemic makes it even harder  – even the ones who live next door and in the same town.

It’s like we all got into a relationship and then moved away. It’s difficult to stay in-tune, connect and feel the fire from afar…the constant fear, dismay and unknowing doesn’t help anything.

My teenager has struggled with feeling very distant from her friends, some of which she hasn’t been able to see on a regular basis since last March.

I feel like many of my relationships have sort of fizzled, too…as long distance relationships often do. I still dearly love my friends, but I feel like someone hit the pause button on my friendships!

This is your reminder to check in on your friends!

Whether by text, email, phone, zoom - whatever the method, it’s important to connect with those you love.

I’m not a phone talker…at all. I’m good with convos that are, let’s say, under 20 minutes, but they hit the 30-minute mark and I revert into the spacey world of Charlie Brown listening to his teacher! “Wa-wuh-wa-wuh-wuh.”

That being said, I’m probably one of the few Gen Xers that has fully embraced texting to the max! I actually LOVE texting and using emojis😊!

I’ve also started sending random cards to friends and family to hopefully lift their spirits just a little.

We all need to reach out in any way that feels right. It’s so easy to sink into the dark hole of our Netflix binges, but we must FIGHT isolation, not only for ourselves, but for our friends!

Will you join me in doing a FRIEND CHECK today?
